Plot summary
Shayda, an Iranian immigrant in Australia, lives in a women's shelter run by Joyce with her young daughter, Mona. She has left her husband, Hossein, and is seeking a divorce. In the shelter, Shayda and Joyce work on her testimony with an interpreter, and Shayda teaches Mona to run to airport security should her father ever try to take her. As Nowruz approaches, she grows wheat sprouts, cooks Iranian dishes, and shows Mona how to set the haft-sin table. A judge then grants Hossein weekly unsupervised visits with Mona. He brings gifts and says he has changed, and Shayda resumes contact with her friend Elly, going to a club with the shelter women.
