Plot summary
Farzaneh is a driving instructor in Tehran. She lives with her husband, Jalal. One day she sees Jalal walk into a house that belongs to a woman she does not know. When she asks him about it, he says he was not in the city at that time. Jalal decides to visit the house himself and find out who lives there. The woman who answers the door is named Bita, and she has Farzaneh's face. Indoors, the two of them compare photographs of their partners. Bita's husband, Mohsen, is the image of Jalal, and each of them recognizes the other's spouse in the picture.

- Parinaz Izadyar was announced in 2020 to star opposite Navid Mohammadzadeh in Subtraction, but the part went to Taraneh Alidoosti; director Mani Haghighi blamed Corona and the actors' commitments to other projects and called Alidoosti joining a great blessing.
- Subtraction was first due to shoot in 2020, but filming was pushed to March 2021 after director Mani Haghighi contracted COVID-19, and was halted again in April 2021 when a large outbreak made Tehran a red state.
