Plot summary
A filmmaker's long fascination with sharks turns into a campaign to change how the animals are seen. He argues against the image of sharks as bloodthirsty man-eaters and describes them as pillars in the evolution of the oceans. He travels with the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society to the waters holding the densest shark hunting populations, including the marine reserves of Cocos Island in Costa Rica and the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador. There the crew confronts poachers, and the confrontations bring boat rammings, police and corrupt court systems. The rising demand for shark-fin soup in Asia, he reports, fuels an illegal trade that is driving the species toward extinction.
