Plot summary
A letter goes out on a Friday, and the reply comes on the Friday after. Godard addresses Golestan as Robinson; so runs the correspondence between Golestan, in a mansion in Sussex, and Godard in Switzerland, who sends images and words across the Channel and stages himself as he thinks each day. Golestan tries to decode what arrives and to bring it back to the look of reason. Running under the letters is the question of what part an artist has in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, and whether a poet's existence still means anything at a time of distress.
