Plot summary
She came to filmmaking with the French New Wave; he is a photographer and muralist 55 years her junior. Agnès Varda and JR ride through villages, small towns, farms and factories across rural France in a box truck that serves as a portable photo booth and a traveling printing facility, photographing the people they meet and enlarging the pictures into black-and-white posters. The pair plaster these portraits on buildings and in public spaces, honoring individuals, communities and places. As they travel the two become friends. Varda often mentions a short film she made in 1961, in which a young man sees everything through dark glasses.
