The Dark Side of Green Energies (2020) on Netflix

Plot summary

Green energy has been growing since the COP21 meeting of 2015 set demanding targets for cutting greenhouse gases, and the electric car has turned into the symbol of that shift. Carmakers say little about the carbon footprint of the vehicles they sell as zero emission. Those cars run on electricity that is not always clean, and their batteries call for rare metals, cobalt and lithium among them. Pulling those metals out of the ground causes havoc on the far side of the planet. China is a champion of rare metals, and in Heilongjiang province a layer of toxic dust lies over farmland.
