Plot summary
Nathalie Pove works as a political journalist until a mistake on an assignment gets her moved to the soccer desk. Her editor then hands her another job: covering the second round of the presidential race, whose front-runner is Pierre-Henry Mercier, a man in his fifties and an heir to a family long prominent in France. The campaign presents him as new to politics, which does not match the man Pove has dealt with in the past, who struck her as less smooth. Unsettled by the candidate, she begins looking into him and into the campaign built around him.
