Plot summary

The Jeonjinho is a 69-ton South Korean fishing vessel, and its trips bring in catches too small to keep the crew in money. Captain Cheol-joo is offered the biggest payday of his career to carry thirty illegal immigrants from China to South Korea, and the whole crew agrees to the scheme. He takes the job, and the boat turns for the mainland. Dong-shik, the youngest hand aboard, sails with the rest, among them chief engineer Wan-ho and boatswain Ho-young. When the ship reaches the pick-up point, the passengers are waiting on the mainland, and among them is a young woman, Hong-mae, a migrant making the crossing.
