Plot summary
The Count's body rests on a stone plinth in a castle chamber reachable only through a window set high in the wall. A bat flies in and spills blood over the ashes, and Dracula lives again. In the village, a priest blesses the men who burn the castle in anger over another murdered young woman. Paul Carlson, accused of rape and innocent of it, escapes the authorities by leaping aboard a coach that travels with no driver. He falls off, reaches an inn, and is thrown out by the innkeeper; in the forest he finds the coach again, and Dracula's servant Klove brings it home. The Count and Tania receive Paul at the castle. Simon Carlson, Paul's brother, and Sarah Framsen, Simon's fiancée, begin the search for Paul.
