Plot summary
Amreek lives in Los Angeles with his girlfriend Radha, and together they run a moving company called Gently Gently. His laidback manner and his refusal to own his mistakes strain the business and the relationship, and Radha breaks up with him. Then his father Gurki calls from Amritsar: Amreek's grandmother Sardar Kaur, who is ninety, is ill, and the doctors say an operation is too risky at her age. Sardar wants to travel to Lahore and see the house she built in 1946 with her husband Gursher Singh, who died during Partition. Her visa is refused, since years earlier she struck a Pakistani official, Saqlain Niazi, at a cricket match in Mohali. Amreek begins to study whether a house can be lifted and moved, and he keeps the plan from her.
