Plot summary
Govinda Waghmare works as a backup dancer in Mumbai films and hopes to become a choreographer. His marriage to Gauri has gone sour, and she will agree to a divorce only if he returns the ₹2 crores paid as dowry at their wedding. He wants to build a life with his girlfriend Suku, a fellow dancer. His father Gopi, a fight choreographer, left him and his mother Asha a bungalow, and Gopi's first wife Charulata and her son Vishnu argue in court that the house is theirs, claiming Gopi's marriage to Asha was staged for a film. Asha has been pretending to be paralyzed to win sympathy in the case. Gauri, meanwhile, has an insurance agent boyfriend, Baldev.

- Govinda Naam Mera began as a spy comedy titled Mr. Lele, announced in January 2020 by Karan Johar and Shashank Khaitan with Varun Dhawan, Bhumi Pednekar and Janhvi Kapoor. It was shelved during the COVID-19 pandemic, then revived in January 2021 with Vicky Kaushal replacing Dhawan and Kiara Advani replacing Kapoor.
- Shooting on Govinda Naam Mera began in Mumbai in March 2021 but was halted for several weeks that April when both Vicky Kaushal and Bhumi Pednekar tested positive for COVID-19 during India's second wave; filming resumed in June 2021.
