Plot summary
Days before Christmas, Santa's elves sing in the North Pole workshop while Santa is away. Their reindeer return without Santa or his sleigh, and the elves wonder what became of him. Santa has crashed on a beach at Dania Beach, Florida, and the sleigh is stuck fast in the sand. He sleeps and summons several local children without speaking; they run to him and offer their help. They bring animals to pull the sleigh, among them a sheep, a pig, a cow, a horse, a donkey, and a man in a gorilla suit. Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn watch from a distance. Every attempt fails. Santa tells the children not to lose hope and begins the story of Thumbelina.
