- Director Steven Morales Pineda drew on his own life for the screenplay of Agua Salá: a Catholic priest was, in his words, both his first love and his first heartbreak, feeding the film's intimacy about a man's feelings for a priest.
- The screenplay of Agua Salá took first place in 2019 at the Encuentro Internacional de Productores during the Cartagena International Film Festival, which earned director Steven Morales Pineda a grant from France's Centre National du Cinéma to develop the film.
