Plot summary

Kaali loses her husband, and orthodox custom strips her of her identity: she is dressed in white and sent to a widow house, where she is meant to mourn and stay out of sight. Chaandi is a transgender woman her family has disowned. She lives in a trans community, where Guru Maa and Radha push her toward the sex trade, a path she wants to avoid. Both feel that society has no place for them, and both go into the Ganges to drown. Underwater their paths cross, and Kaali pulls Chaandi out, taking her for a man. Kaali knows her as Chaand, and the regard she shows her is unlike anything Chaandi has known. Chaandi keeps her gender hidden to hold on to the bond.
