Zelda Rubinstein
Biography
Zelda Rubinstein was an American actress who played Tangina Barrons, the eccentric medium in the Poltergeist films. Born in Pittsburgh, she worked at blood banks as a medical laboratory technician until she chose acting in 1978. Poltergeist was her first major film role, and critic Pauline Kael praised her portrayal of the psychic even while dismissing the movie. She often took psychic parts afterward, and her other movies included Under the Rainbow (1981), Teen Witch (1989) and National Lampoon's Last Resort (1994). On television she had a recurring role as Ginny Weedon on Picket Fences, appeared on shows such as Mr. Belvedere and Caroline in the City, and narrated the horror series Scariest Places on Earth. She also voiced Skittles commercials and made a cameo in Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (2006), her last film role.
