Yuliya Snigir

Biography

Yuliya Snigir is a Russian actress who came to acting after a chess career, becoming Candidate of Chess Master at fifteen. Born in a town in Tula, Russia, she moved to Moscow, entered a pedagogical university, and supported herself by teaching English at a nursery school. She became a model, and a casting director spotted her at an agency and invited her to audition. Her acting began after she was accepted into Vakhtangov Theatre Academy and appeared in two independent films. Her break came with leading roles in the science fiction film The Inhabited Island (2008) and its sequel The Inhabited Island 2: Rebellion, which made her a star in Russia. She became a face for L'Oreal, Mexx clothing, and Mexx perfume. She worked in television, theater, and film, and on stage played a male role in a King Lear production that won theater awards. In 2012 she was cast as the female lead in the fifth Die Hard film.
