Biography

William Stanford Davis, born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, is no stranger to the stage. He got his start in an R&B band as a youngster and remained the front man throughout his college years. Soon to be bitten by the comedy bug, he spent the next few years working at many of the comedy clubs across the country." It was only then, he discovered his true passion Acting. "I love music and making people laugh but nothing feeds my soul like acting," he says.

  1. A change of course

    Davis was 33 when he moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting, inspired by seeing Sidney Poitier in the 1958 film The Defiant Ones.

  2. Big break

    Davis plays Mr. Johnson, the eccentric longtime janitor on Abbott Elementary, the ABC sitcom from Quinta Brunson. After a Zoom audition, he was expected to be just a guest star, but he ended up a recurring character in all 12 episodes of season one.

  3. Early training

    A teacher took Davis to a Negro Ensemble Company performance while he was in high school, and that experience inspired him to pursue acting.

  4. Beyond film

    Davis was the frontman of The Fabulous Paramount Revue, a pop and R&B band, from high school through college. The group played as an opening act for The O'Jays and others before breaking up during the Vietnam War.
