Walter Woolf King
Biography
Walter Woolf King was an American actor and singer whose career spanned film, television, and the stage. After growing up in Salt Lake City, he began in vaudeville, touring with a singing act and making his first Broadway appearance in 1920, where he built a reputation as a baritone in operettas and musical comedies. His movie work began with Golden Dawn (1930). Although he started in musicals, he soon moved into supporting parts and was perhaps best remembered for playing villains opposite the Marx Brothers in A Night at the Opera (1935) and Go West (1940). He also appeared with Laurel and Hardy in Swiss Miss (1938). In 1936 he hosted the CBS radio program Flying Red Horse Tavern. Later he became an actors' agent and took smaller, often uncredited parts on television and in films during the 1950s and 1960s. His final screen appearance was the 1977 television movie One in a Million: The Ron LeFlore Story.
