Victor French
Biography
Victor French was an American actor and director who, like his father, first worked in television as a stuntman, mostly in Westerns and anthology shows. Born in Santa Barbara, he guest-starred in 39 series; his first real Western part came in a 1961 episode of Two Faces West, and he appeared in Spencer's Mountain (1963) as one of the Spencer brothers. He had a record 23 roles on Gunsmoke, often playing dangerous or bumbling crooks, and played Agent 44 on Get Smart from 1965 to 1966. After The Waltons, he took his best-known part, Mr. Edwards on Little House on the Prairie, beginning in 1974, and directed some of its episodes. He left from 1977 to 1979 to star in Carter Country, then played Mark Gordon opposite Michael Landon on Highway to Heaven from 1984 to 1989. His films included Charro! (1969) and An Officer and a Gentleman (1982).
