Valentina Cervi

Biography

Born in Rome in 1976, Valentina Cervi is an Italian actress in film and television. She began acting as a child, making her debut at ten in Carlo Cotti's Portami la luna (1986). She later appeared in an English-language role in Jane Campion's The Portrait of a Lady (1996). Her lead performance in Agnès Merlet's Artemisia (1997), about the painter Artemisia Gentileschi, was one of her most acclaimed. In 2011 she played Bertha Mason in Cary Fukunaga's Jane Eyre (2011) and Arianna in the BBC mini-series Zen, and she also appeared in the series Distretto di Polizia. She was cast as the vampire Salome in the HBO drama True Blood. In 2018 the Italy-USA Foundation honored her with its America Award.
