Tim Holt
Biography
Tim Holt was an American actor who became a popular star of B Westerns. Born in Beverly Hills, he was the son of actor Jack Holt and began in Hollywood after finishing school. Producer Walter Wanger signed him in 1937, and he made his debut in Stella Dallas (1937). RKO then put him under contract, and he appeared in Stagecoach (1939), The Spirit of Culver (1939), Fifth Avenue Girl (1939), and Swiss Family Robinson (1940). He was best remembered for The Magnificent Ambersons (1942), My Darling Clementine (1946), and The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948). Holt spent the 1940s in a long string of B Westerns for RKO, often with sidekick Richard Martin. Later screen work included His Kind of Woman (1951) and The Monster That Challenged the World (1957). He was posthumously inducted into the Western Performers Hall of Fame in 1991.

Big break
Tim Holt was cast by Orson Welles as the lead in The Magnificent Ambersons, Welles's second film, in September 1941. Welles later called Holt one of the most interesting actors ever in American movies.
Early training
Holt attended Culver Military Academy, graduating in 1936, and his classmate Budd Boetticher remembered him walking the halls in a bathrobe with .38 revolvers, practicing his draw and saying he would be a western star.
A first
In 1948, Magazine Enterprises published a comic book series with Holt as its hero. In issue #20, he became the masked hero Red Mask, a role that continued through issue #42.
