Thomas Bangalter
Biography
Thomas Bangalter is a French musician, producer, DJ and composer, born in Paris, who began piano lessons at six and met Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo at school in 1987. They formed the indie rock trio Darlin' and then Daft Punk, whose name came from a scornful review of the earlier band. Best known as one half of Daft Punk, Bangalter also cut solo records and, as part of Stardust, the 1998 club hit Music Sounds Better with You. He scored Gaspar Noé's Irréversible, worked on the score for Tron: Legacy (2010), and in 2010 was named a Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres alongside de Homem-Christo. Later Daft Punk albums included Random Access Memories, and after the duo disbanded in 2021 he wrote music for ballets including Mythologies and Apaches.

About the name
After Daft Punk broke up in 2021, Bangalter appeared in public more often and put out music on his own label, Alberts & Gothmaan, which is an anagram of his name.
A change of course
Bangalter was the sound effects director for Gaspar Noe's 2009 film Enter the Void, his second collaboration with the filmmaker after Irreversible. He had initially been approached to compose the soundtrack but was busy with the Tron: Legacy score.
