Tamara Tunie
Biography
Tamara Tunie is an American actress, singer, director, and producer. Born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, and raised in Homestead, she graduated from Carnegie Mellon University's musical theater program and made her Broadway debut in 1981 in Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music. On daytime television she became known as attorney Jessica Griffin on As the World Turns, a role that earned NAACP Image Award nominations. She later portrayed medical examiner Melinda Warner on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Tunie appeared in Wall Street (1987) and The Devil's Advocate (1997), received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for The Caveman's Valentine (2001), and had a supporting role in Flight (2012). She also played Cissy Houston in Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody (2022). On stage, she won a Tony Award in 2007 as a producer of Spring Awakening and an Obie Award in 2016 for Familiar.
