Stephen Mangan
Biography
Stephen Mangan is a British actor and comedian who also works as a presenter and writer. Born in Ponders End, north London, he studied law at Cambridge, where he acted, before training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. After graduating in 1994, he worked in theater across the UK and the West End. His breakthrough television role was Adrian Mole in Adrian Mole: The Cappuccino Years, and he went on to play Guy Secretan in Green Wing and Seán Lincoln in Episodes. On stage, he was Tony-nominated as Norman in The Norman Conquests and played Bertie Wooster in the stage comedy Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense, a production that took the 2014 Laurence Olivier Award in the Best New Comedy category. His films include Billy Elliot (2000), Birthday Girl (2001), Confetti (2006), Rush (2013) and Postman Pat: The Movie (2014), in which he voiced the title role. He presents the Sky Arts program Artist of the Year.

Big break
Mangan played Adrian Mole in Adrian Mole: The Cappuccino Years, a six-part BBC TV series, in 2001. This role was his breakthrough television performance.
Early training
Mangan read for a law degree at Cambridge's Gonville and Caius College, and while there he acted in 21 plays. He never became a member of the Cambridge Footlights.
A change of course
Mangan finished at RADA in 1994. He chose not to chase lead screen roles, since he felt the stage offered him chances that were less limited.
Behind the camera
Mangan both co-wrote and starred in Hang Ups, a Channel 4 show that was based on the American comedy series Web Therapy.
