Biography

Scott McKay was an American actor who worked in film, television and theater. Born Carl Gose in Pleasantville, Iowa, he studied English literature at the University of Colorado and planned to become an English professor before a Little Theatre production led him to acting instead. His first stage job was as a magician's straight man, and from 1939 he appeared in Broadway plays, starting with The American Way, for which he was credited as Carl Gose. He later played Captain Fisby in the Broadway run of The Teahouse of the August Moon, taking over from John Forsythe, and took the part of David Larabee in Sabrina Fair. McKay began his screen career in 1944 with Guest in the House (1944) and Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo (1944). Later came Duel in the Sun (1946), the CBS sitcom Honestly, Celeste!, and Christmas Evil (1980), his last film. His final theater credit came in 1974, in Absurd Person Singular.
