Robert Arden
Biography
Robert Arden was a British-American actor born in London who worked mostly in the United Kingdom and often played American characters on film, television and radio. His best known screen role was Guy Van Stratten, the investigator in Orson Welles's Mr. Arkadin (1955); Welles had worked with him on the Harry Lime radio series and admired his performance in a London stage production of Guys and Dolls. Some critics disliked his work in the part, with The New York Times calling it hopelessly inadequate, though the film historian Jonathan Rosenbaum later defended it. Arden went on to a few further leading roles, then moved into supporting work, among it a high official hypnotized into killing himself in Omen III: The Final Conflict (1981). He died in 2004.

Big break
Welles knew Arden from the Harry Lime radio series, made in London, and from a London staging of Guys and Dolls. He then gave the little-known actor the central part in Mr. Arkadin, the investigator who uncovers Arkadin's past.
