Robert Alan Beuth
Biography
Robert Alan Beuth is an American actor, artist, and playwright who has built a long career in character roles on television and in film. Born in Albany, New York, he grew up partly in Fresno, California, where he began acting with a community theater. He studied theater at Fresno State University and later trained at the William Esper Studio in New York City. On television, he is most notable for playing Mueller on two seasons of Night Stand with Dick Dietrick, and he won an award for his guest work on the web series Slanted. His film credits include When Harry Met Sally... (1989) and Graveyard Shift (1990). He has also written plays, notably Stories of the Season and In the Valley of the Mist, and designs theatrical masks and puppets.

Early training
Beuth answered a trade publication ad placed by Julie Taymor, then unknown, and took her eight-week maskmaking course in 1981, which launched his work as a theatrical mask and puppet designer.
Behind the award
Beuth conceived and developed the sleazy talent agent Marty Phister on the 2010 web series Slanted, played him in two of its six episodes, and won Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series at the 2011 LAWebFest.
Behind the camera
Beuth's latest work as a dramatist was a one-man version of the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Peter Van Norden directed it, and it ran four weeks at the Moving Arts Theatre in Los Angeles in February and March 2024, with custom-designed puppets.
A change of course
Beuth broadened his sculpting purview after In the Valley of the Mist wrapped, spending twelve years as a student of Jonathan Bickhart, a Santa Monica artist, and building a further specialty in cast bronze.
