Rita La Roy

Biography

Rita La Roy was an American actress and dancer who began her career in 1929. Born in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, she worked first as a dress designer and stock company actress, then danced in vaudeville on the Pantages and Orpheum theater circuits. Her film debut came in 1929 in The Delightful Rogue, opposite Rod La Rocque, and she went on to take starring and supporting parts in more than 50 films, many of them at RKO Radio Pictures. Her best known film was Blonde Venus, starring Marlene Dietrich. She took her last substantial role in the 1940 comedy mystery Hold That Woman!, though she appeared in smaller parts later in the decade, including Sergeant York and You're My Everything. After retiring from film she ran a modeling school and agency, wrote and produced programs for the Los Angeles station KTLA, and won an Emmy in 1948. She died in 1993.

Rita La Roy wrote and produced her own shows for KTLA, the local television station in Los Angeles, and won an Emmy in 1948 for one of those programs.
First role
La Roy's first film part came in 1929, in The Delightful Rogue, where she played opposite Rod La Rocque, a matinee idol of the day.

La Roy mostly left film behind in the early 1940s. After that, she ran the Rita La Roy Modeling School and Agency.
