Richard Eastham
Biography
Born in Opelousas, Louisiana, in 1916, Richard Eastham was an American stage, film, and television actor and a concert singer with a deep baritone voice. He attended Washington University in St. Louis, sang with the St. Louis Grand Opera, and served in the Army during the Second World War. On Broadway he understudied Ezio Pinza in South Pacific and eventually took over the part of Emile DeBecque; his notices were strong enough that he led a national tour of the musical that ran for two years. Medea and Call Me Madam numbered among his other stage credits, and he and Janet Blair returned to South Pacific in 1965 in their original roles. He played Wesley Northridge in a 1981 Waltons episode. Eastham also invented the Sidewinder, a tool that helped restring guitars, and 31,000 units were sold in its first three weeks on the market. He died in 2005.
