Behind the camera
Dormer wrote and starred in the 2003 play Hurricane as Northern Irish snooker star Alex Higgins, a performance that won him The Stage award for Best Actor.
A change of course
Dormer has said his Northern Irish accent made his early career difficult, since people linked it to terrorism. He turned down parts he called terrorists or thugs, which cut his film and television chances.
Big break
After playing secondary characters in a run of film castings, Dormer got the lead in the 2012 movie Good Vibrations, about Terri Hooley, a Northern Ireland personality and punk rock visionary.
