Pat Keen
Biography
Pat Keen was an English actress whose career across theater, television and film extended from the 1950s into the 2000s. Born in Willesden, London, she attended the Central School of Speech and Drama, graduating in 1956 before being offered work at the Oxford Playhouse. Her first West End appearance came in 1960, as Margaret in the premiere of A Man for All Seasons by Robert Bolt. On television she played Clara Peggotty in the BBC serial David Copperfield (1974). Keen became best known for portraying strident, bossy middle-aged women in the 1970s and 1980s, including Virginia in The Anniversary, a 1979 episode of Fawlty Towers, and an anxious mother in Clockwise (1986). She also played Addy, the mother-in-law, in the series Down to Earth from 2000 to 2001. She died in 2013.

Keen studied at the Central School of Speech and Drama, where the novelist Paul Bailey was a fellow student. After finishing in 1956, Keen received an offer of work at the Oxford Playhouse.
