Paprika Steen
Biography
Paprika Steen is an actress and director who has played a variety of roles. Her first major role came in Okay (2002), where she played Nete, a loud and controlling woman, and the performance brought her a Best Actress nomination from the European Film Academy. Earlier she had appeared in smaller but memorable roles: a snobbish upper-class figure in The Idiots (1998), a sister who was strong yet slightly neurotic in The Celebration (1998), and a beautician whose nerdiness was touching in Den eneste ene (1999), also known as The One and Only. That film was a major hit, and her supporting turn in it earned the Danish Academy Award. Her work showed considerable dramatic talent and a strong sense of humor, and she remained sympathetic to the characters she portrayed, with the empathy she evoked making her performances memorable.
