Mira Furlan
Biography
Mira Furlan was a Croatian-American actress and singer. Born in Zagreb, she trained at the Academy for Dramatic Arts and later joined the Croatian National Theater. She appeared in Yugoslav television and film, and played Ankica Vidmar in When Father Was Away on Business (1985), a film that won the Palme d'Or at Cannes and was nominated for an Academy Award for best foreign language film. She moved to New York City and became an Actors Studio member in 1992, then took the lead in Yerma with the Indiana Repertory Theatre. She was best known for playing Delenn across five seasons of Babylon 5 and its related TV movies, and for playing Danielle Rousseau on Lost between 2004 and 2010. She performed in New York and Los Angeles theaters, returned to Croatia in 2002 for Medea, released the album Songs From Movies That Have Never Been Made, and won Golden Arena awards at the Pula Film Festival.

Early training
Furlan trained at the Academy for Dramatic Arts in Zagreb, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in theater while also studying languages at the university and becoming fluent in English, German, and French.
Beyond film
In 2002, Furlan came back to Croatia after eleven years away. She played the lead in Euripides' Medea for Rade Šerbedžija's Ulysses Theatre Company.

In the 1980s Furlan was briefly a singer with Le Cinema, a spin-off of the rock band Film. She also sang vocals on two tracks of the 1983 album Nevino srce by the Slovenian band Buldožer.

In 1998, Furlan put out an album called Songs From Movies That Have Never Been Made. That same year, she was a singer in The Be Five, a band that made one album, Trying to Forget.
Behind the camera
Furlan's play Until Death Do Us Part takes place in Zagreb during the 1970s. Her columns for the Croatian magazine Feral Tribune appeared in a 2010 book, Totalna rasprodaja.
