Biography

Matthew Ferguson is a Canadian former actor whose career began on the stage, playing Morgan Moreen in the 1989 production Geometry in Venice, a performance that brought him a Dora Mavor Moore Award nomination. Born in Toronto, he attended the Claude Watson School for the Arts and went on to study film production at Ryerson University. He made his screen debut as Simon Henderson in On My Own (1991). Strong dramatic parts in Love and Human Remains (1993), Eclipse (1994) and Lilies (1996) earned him Genie Award nominations during the 1990s, and his lead in Sarah Polley's I Shout Love brought an ACTRA Award nomination in 2002, the same year he appeared in the ensemble of An American In Canada, a comedy series that took a Canadian Screen Award. Television viewers know him best as Seymour Birkoff in La Femme Nikita (1997 to 2001). He has also worked as a screenwriter and as a theater and film producer.
