Marietta Marich
Biography
Marietta Marich was an American actress who also sang, wrote, hosted television, and directed stage productions. Born in Dallas, Texas, in 1930, she appeared in USO theatrical productions as a child with her performer parents. She sang with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. In Houston from the 1950s she became a stage actress, hosted her local show, Midnight With Marietta, and directed live theaters. In 1979 she originated Miss Mona in the first Houston production of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, but was fired from the show after clashes. Her feature debut came with Courtship (1987). Supporting parts followed in Simple Men (1992), Children of the Corn IV: The Gathering (1996), and Wes Anderson's Rushmore (1998). She drew notice for playing Luda Mae Hewitt, Leatherface's mother, in the 2003 Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake and in its 2006 prequel, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. Her last film was House of Good and Evil (2013). She died in 2017.
