Plot summary
Grace Rhodes is a medical student who comes home to Grand Island, Nebraska, to look after her mother June, who is agoraphobic and will not leave her yard. Grace also watches over her younger brother James and sister Margaret, and she works again at Dr. Larson's clinic, where she had been employed before. James and Margaret fall ill with fevers, and at the clinic Grace sees that many other children have the same symptoms. She has nightmares of children attacking her.
