Plot summary
Bill and Dennis McCabe come back together after their father, an anarchist, escapes from a hospital. Bill is furious over a robbery and the girlfriend who double-crossed him, and he declares that the next woman he meets will be the one he hurts. Dennis has just finished college and knows less about the world; he wants to locate the father the brothers have not seen. Since Bill has no money, the two leave New York and ride toward Long Island. Their motorcycle quits on them at a roadside diner, and there they meet Kate, Elina and the short-tempered Martin. The brothers stay a few days and begin to get drawn into the life of the town.
