Plot summary
A woman dies giving birth in a Texas slaughterhouse, and the baby is left in a dumpster. Luda Mae Hewitt finds the boy, takes him home, calls him Thomas and brings him up as her son. Thirty years later Thomas works in that same plant, and when the health department closes it, he will not go. Four young people are on the road that same year: brothers Eric and Dean and their girlfriends Chrissie and Bailey, bound for Vietnam. At a diner they cross paths with a biker gang, and one rider chases them on her motorcycle, forcing their car off the highway. Chrissie is thrown clear into a field, and a sheriff arrives at the wreck.
