Marguerite Chapman

Marguerite Chapman was an American actress of film and television who began as a model before Hollywood. She was born in Chatham, New York, and after a period as a John Powers model she took a screen test arranged through Howard Hughes, which led to a contract with 20th Century Fox and a move to Los Angeles in late 1939. Contracts with Warner Brothers and Columbia followed. Her first film was On Their Own in 1940, and after two years of minor parts she won the leading female role in Republic's serial Spy Smasher, regarded as one of the finest serials. She went on to leading roles opposite Edward G. Robinson and George Sanders, starred in the 1945 war film Counter-Attack, and took supporting parts in the 1950s, among them The Seven Year Itch (1955). Television work in the early 1960s included Rawhide, Perry Mason and Four Star Playhouse, and she received a star on Hollywood Boulevard.
