Plot summary
David is a boy whose parents, fond of 1920s parties, die in a mysterious and unpleasant way. He goes to live with his Aunt Martha, a prudish woman whose strict rules keep him from following his adolescent instincts. In her house he takes up the worship of a stuffed chimp god, and the household holds no benevolent adult to guide him as he descends into madness.
