A change of course
Lou Albano became a manager in 1970 after Bruno Sammartino told Vincent J. McMahon that Albano, a mediocre wrestler, would be a great mouthpiece for another wrestler.
About the name
Albano got the "Captain" nickname while managing the Valiant Brothers, when the act was promoted as "Captain Lou and the Valiants too."
Own stunts
Albano picked up a later trademark, putting rubber bands in his beard, after seeing a homeless man do it. He also frequently had a rubber band dangling from a safety pin stuck through his cheek.
Beyond film
In 1979, Jimmy Valiant introduced Albano to NRBQ on the band's tour bus, and bandmember Terry Adams asked him to play the part of their manager, which he agreed to do.
Big break
Albano met Cyndi Lauper in 1983 on a flight from Puerto Rico. Lauper's manager, David Wolff, proposed that the two work together on a project later on.
