Biography

Lee Richardson was an American actor whose career centered on the stage and included frequent work with director Sidney Lumet. Born in Chicago, he served in the Army Air Forces in England during World War II, where he was introduced to Shakespeare and Noël Coward. He left a prelaw course at Loyola University Chicago after one semester to study acting at the Goodman Theatre. Richardson helped found the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis and, because of his classical training, often played roles that called for an English accent, leading some people to mistake him for British. In 1972 he earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Play for Vivat! Vivat Regina!. His film credits included Daniel (1983), Prizzi's Honor (1985), The Fly II (1989), Q&A (1990), The Exorcist III (1990) and A Stranger Among Us (1992). He had television roles in Law & Order and Hearts and Minds, narrated Network, and acted in the television film Skylark.
