Konstantin Shayne
Biography
Konstantin Shayne was a Russian-American actor who was born in Kharkov, then part of the Russian Empire, and arrived in the United States in 1928. His plans to join the Moscow Arts Theatre were broken up by World War I, and he fought with the White Armies during the conflict. His films included None but the Lonely Heart (1944) and The Stranger (1946), which Orson Welles starred in and directed, and he took a role in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (1947), with Danny Kaye in the lead. His part in For Whom the Bell Tolls (1943) was removed before that film came out. Among his final screen appearances, he played the old bookseller Pop Leibel in Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo (1958), holding the screen for two minutes of it.
