June Travis

June Travis was an American film actress who was offered a screen test after a Paramount Pictures vice-president spotted her at a baseball exhibition game in Miami. Born in Chicago, she first turned down a contract because of screen fright, then accepted a studio offer the next winter. She made her screen debut as Mary Rand in Stranded (1935) and took parts in Not On Your Life (1935) and, under Howard Hawks's direction, Ceiling Zero (1936), for which Amelia Earhart coached her in flying, navigation and parachute jumping. She played Della Street in The Case of the Black Cat (1936) and appeared opposite Ronald Reagan in his first film, Love Is on the Air, in 1937. Nicknamed the Queen of the B-movies at Warner Bros., she stopped making pictures after 1938, though she later had small roles in The Star (1952) and Monster a Go-Go! (1965). She also worked in radio soap operas, including Girl Alone and Arnold Grimm's Daughter.
