Plot summary
American astronaut Frank Douglas is sent to look into satellites that no nation has put into orbit. Ground control then loses touch with his capsule, and the craft is believed to have come down by parachute. Col. Steve Connors heads the hunt. A tip about something falling near Chicago's Space Agency Astrophysical Laboratories sends a helicopter patrol to the capsule's nosecone, which Connors finds empty. Ruth Logan learns from Dr. Nora Kramer and Dr. Karl Schreiber that Douglas is still missing. Her husband Harry Logan is dead, and Douglas has been a father figure to her son Jimmy, Douglas's nephew. Dr. Chris Manning, who heads the satellite investigation as a civilian, is brought in. A monster is roaming the area, and no one knows whether it is connected to the missing man.

- Because Herschell Gordon Lewis didn't finish the film until 1965, he couldn't gather all of the original cast, so almost half the characters vanish midway through, replaced by new characters in the same roles. One rehired actor had changed so much in the intervening years that he was made the brother of his original character.
- Filming began in 1962 as Terror at Half Day, but Bill Rebane ran out of funding in 1963 and turned the unfinished film over to Herschell Gordon Lewis, who was already working with him.
- Bill Rebane knew the 7 ft 6¾ in (2.31 m) Henry Hite socially, and that inspired him to write a science fiction story built around the actor.
- Lewis needed a second feature to pair with his own film Moonshine Mountain, so he added extra scenes and new dialogue to the abandoned footage, releasing a disjointed story with little continuity.
- At one point when a phone supposedly rings in the film, the sound effect is obviously a person making the noise with his mouth.
- Monster a Go-Go's lack of focus forced the Mystery Science Theater 3000 writers, for the first time, to explicitly decide that none of the episode's host segments would have anything to do with the movie.
