Josh Becker

Josh Becker was an American filmmaker who wrote and directed movies and television and also wrote books. Raised in Detroit, he fell for cinema as a boy and spent his teens shooting Super-8 shorts alongside Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell. He worked as a sound recordist and production assistant on The Evil Dead, then spent years raising money for his first feature, Thou Shalt Not Kill... Except (1985), which he made at 25 with Raimi in the cast. Lunatics: A Love Story followed in 1991. On television he directed installments of Real Stories of the Highway Patrol and then Hercules in the Maze of the Minotaur, a TV movie that opened the way to several years of episodes of Xena: Warrior Princess. He also made the black-and-white Running Time with Campbell, and wrote, produced and directed If I Had a Hammer in 1999. Later features included Alien Apocalypse, Stan Lee's Harpies and Warpath, and he died in 2025.
