John Lydon
Biography
John Lydon is an English singer who, as Johnny Rotten, led the Sex Pistols after Malcolm McLaren invited him to join in 1975. He helped write the band's singles God Save the Queen and Anarchy in the U.K., and their only studio album Never Mind the Bollocks arrived in 1977. When the group broke up in 1978, he formed Public Image Ltd, an experimental post-punk outfit that released eight studio albums before pausing in 1993 and regrouping in 2009. His film work includes Copkiller (1983) and a small part in The Independent (2000). Julien Temple's The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle (1980) covered the Sex Pistols' collapse, while Lydon agreed to let Temple direct the documentary The Filth and the Fury (2000). He issued the solo album Psycho's Path in 1997, wrote two autobiographies, and hosted television programs. The Sex Pistols entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006, but the band did not attend.

A role that slipped away
Lydon was cast as King Herod for a North American arena tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Jesus Christ Superstar, but the producers canceled the whole tour on 31 May 2014 because of poor advance ticket sales.
Beyond film
Lydon's 1984 single "World Destruction" came out of Time Zone, a project that paired him with Afrika Bambaataa and producer and bassist Bill Laswell, and it stands as an early example of rap rock.
