Paul Cook

Biography

Paul Cook is an English musician who drummed for and helped found the punk band the Sex Pistols. Born in Hammersmith in 1956, he met Steve Jones at school, and in the early 1970s they formed the Strand with Wally Nightingale; it soon became the Sex Pistols. After the band's 1978 breakup, Cook and Jones worked on the soundtrack to Julien Temple's The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle (1980), and Cook sang lead on Silly Thing. He and Jones then started the Professionals, who released singles and the album I Didn't See It Coming in 1981. In the early 1980s he helped Bananarama and produced their debut album Deep Sea Skiving. Later work included Chiefs of Relief, sessions for Edwyn Collins on A Girl Like You, and the 1996 Sex Pistols reunion tour. He played with Man-Raze, joined Vic Godard and Subway Sect, reunited the Professionals for a 2015 show, and performed as Generation Sex.
