Biography

John Emmet Tracy, an American-Canadian actor, has worked in stage, film, television, and voice acting. Born in Chicago and raised in Chicago and Milwaukee, he studied at Rose Bruford College in England, where he earned a degree in theater, and also trained under Lynn Redgrave and Uta Hagen. Stage work came first: toward the end of the 1990s he took the lead in a Hamlet production that toured Japan for a year. Later he acted in Los Angeles and Vancouver. His theater credits brought a Jessie Richardson Theatre Award as Outstanding Lead Actor for Terminus, plus nominations for The Seafarer and Outside Mullingar. On screen, he has appeared in American Mary (2012) and If I Stay (2014), provided the voice of Thomas Jefferson in Assassin's Creed III, was a regular on Olympus, had recurring parts on iZombie and Batwoman, and appears as Ellis Steele on Yellowstone.

    Tracy created, produced and performed The 24 Hour Shakespeare Project, staging abridged versions of all 38 Shakespeare plays in a single 24 hour stretch on April 23, the playwright's 450th birthday.
