Joey Forman
Biography
Joey Forman was an American comedian and comic actor who started out in radio in his hometown of Philadelphia in the late 1940s and broke into show business by winning Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts. A stint at a Catskills resort turned him from athletic director into a stage comedian, and he went on to Las Vegas as Mickey Rooney's opening act and straight man, later playing Freddy on Rooney's NBC sitcom The Mickey Rooney Show from 1954 to 1955. Known as a Borscht Belt comic, he did standup on stage and television and took comic parts in film and TV. He played an audio director in The Errand Boy (1961), appeared in The Wheeler Dealers (1963), and guested on The Monkees, Get Smart, Bewitched and the first-season finale of MASH. He created the parody character The Mashuganishi Yogi and made a 1968 comedy album with Bill Dana. He died in 1982.

Beyond film
Joey Forman created a parody character called "The Mashuganishi Yogi," spoofing the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, and in 1968 he and Bill Dana turned it into a comedy album staged as a fake press conference.
A change of course
Forman was working as an athletic director at the Grossinger's resort in the Catskills when his funny remarks got management to put him on stage as a comedian, though he wanted to be a serious actor.
